Scoped to your work, not sold in packages.
Every engagement starts with a conversation. Most of our client relationships span years; the work shifts as the kaupapa develops. These are the four ways we usually work together.
Whatever the depth, what you are buying is one thing: a Whakapapa Economics impact assessment, scoped to you. The four engagements below are a ladder into that one method — and it starts with a free conversation, no commitment.
Kōrero
A kōrero is a conversation. It is free, and we are always happy to talk. Tell us what you are working on, what decision is coming up, and what evidence you already hold. We will tell you honestly whether we can help and what the sensible next step is.
Book one about anything — it stands on its own. It is also how a Readiness Snapshot begins.
Impact Readiness Snapshot
An optional short, fixed-fee readiness review. We look at what you do and the evidence you hold, show what it can already support and what's missing, and give you a prioritised plan for what to gather next — and how.
Before any analysis begins, a person reads everything you send. If a Snapshot won't serve your decision, we stop and refund in full.
If you commission a full impact assessment within 90 days for substantially the same kaupapa and scope, $5,000 excl. GST of the Snapshot fee is credited to that assessment.
See what you receiveImpact assessment
The core work, described in full on the Impact page. Every assessment includes valuation — the numbers, not just the story. From $20,000 excl. GST for one clearly defined programme or initiative. Larger projects — several programmes, several sites, or several assessments together — are priced for what they involve. Fixed fee once scoped.
Ongoing relationship
Annual measurement cycles, advisory work, and strategy and decision support as it arises. This is where most of our work sits: clients we have measured with for years, where each cycle builds on the last.
And when the work is done, we help you take it into the world — design, plain-language summaries, and the communications that get your results seen and used, not shelved.
How we think about fees
Fees are fixed once scoped. We would rather spend a free conversation confirming fit than start work that doesn't serve your decision. Cost is driven by the number of material outcomes, counterfactual complexity, stakeholder groups, primary research needs, and the level of assurance required. Where relational and intergenerational value is material, we scope the pathway work in from the start.
Who we are not a fit for
- Organisations that want a headline ratio regardless of what the evidence supports. Our claims are conservative and our assumptions are published.
- Projects where there is no realistic access to the people or data the outcomes depend on.
- Marketing-led impact reporting where the number matters more than the method.
